About

theycallmepastorbryan seems like it could easily be a strange name for a blog. It could easily seem that it would come from someone who is in love with titles and accolades.  The truth, however is that it’s a very strange thing to be called a pastor. It’s a role that I don’t always know what to do with.

It is also a fitting name though, because I am a pastor and spend a lot of time reflecting on what it means to be a Christian and what it means to be a pastor.

I’m a former seminarian and a computer programmer. I’ve successfully led a church plant into the ground, and in retrospect have found myself being okay with it.  Now, I’m a team leader for a missional community in southeast Portland.  I write mostly pastoral reflections and essays for those thinking about faith.

What else can I say? I’m an ENFP, my strengths finders strengths are Includer, Ideation, Input, Strategic and Activator. I spend my time not programming, pastoring or blogging, by drinking copious amounts of coffee and enjoying the fine microbrews of Portland.  Join the conversation here as we further explore the Christian story.
